Have you ever heard a wedding photographer talk about how much they love the “golden hour” for taking the most breathtaking wedding and engagement photos? Well, we really do love our golden hour and I can tell you about a million reasons why! Honestly, though, it all comes down to one thing – capturing a moment and turning it into something magical with the perfect amount of warm, enchanting lighting. I thought I’d share some of my favorite wedding and engagement photos I captured during the golden hour to show how beautiful it can be!
You might be asking yourself, “what is the ‘golden hour’?” The golden hour describes the period of time right before sunset when the light from the sun is warm and diffused, with just the right level of softness to make the harsh shadows from the mid-day sun completely disappear. It’s like nature’s perfect filter, and it can create some really epic moments and show your photographer’s artistic vision at work.
During the golden hour, the sky is warm and casts a soft glow over everything, including you and your fiance! Not only is the light really flattering, but it also casts a luminescent glow onto a grassy field or sandy beach – wherever you decide to have your wedding portraits! The glow creates a magical summer-night effect for your wedding photos.
As I’ve said in past posts, timing is everything on your wedding day and capturing gorgeous golden hour portraits will make all of those time checks seem so worth it! It’s absolutely okay to steal away from your reception for 10 minutes to capture the magic of the afternoon sun for your wedding photos. After all, your wedding portraits will stay with you forever and hold all of the precious memories from your big day!
