Weddings are about more than coordinating every last detail, assembling the perfect vendor team to execute your big day, and finding just the right color scheme to pull every piece together. More than anything, your wedding should be the best representation of who you and your fiance are and should celebrate your relationship and the life you want to live together. What better way to celebrate than scheduling an engagement session?!
Have you ever had an idea pop into your head that just feels SO right? You can't stop thinking about it and just know that you have to put it into action? For a long time this was never on my radar. I never pictured myself doing this. But, that feeling didn't last forever and on that note...
I can't tell you how much I love living in Baltimore. Between the culture, restaurant scene, and tons of destination spots only a short drive away, you can always find fun and new things to get into with your tribe.
How are my fellow work-at-home boss lady mamas doing?! Are you feeling energized, organized, and completely on top of every little detail required to make a family, home, and business run smoothly? No? Good. Neither am I! Let's just face the reality of the nearly impossible. It's hard work. All of it!
Waking up on April the 9th and the meteorologist is still talking about freezing temperatures. I just can't take it anymore! It looks like we'll hit 70 degrees by Thursday, though! Here's what's been going on in my part of the world!
Wedding planning can be overwhelming, right? Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news- but it's not over after you say "I do"! Once you've caught up on sleep and come home from the honeymoon, there are some loose ends you'll need to tie up. Here are the top things to do after you say "I do"!
Coming from a photographer, this is huge for me! First of all, nothing makes my day more than getting the notification that someone has written a review for me. Vendors appreciate and need these reviews more than we can express. So much of our business is gained through word of mouth! Hint: we like to get 5 stars and reviews on multiple platforms- but you can totally copy and paste ;)
PRESERVE YOUR GOWN
That gorgeous gown that cost you a pretty penny? Let's not leave it in a pile on the floor in the back of the closet caked in mud. The thought makes me shudder! Do your research and ask some recently married friends where they took their gown to get cleaned and preserved. It's one of those chores that's easily forgotten about but is also such a relief once you can cross it off your to-do list!
WRITE THANK YOU CARDS
This one is SO important! Friends and family flew in from out of town, took time off of work, threw you a bridal shower, and who knows what else in preparation for your big day. Please remember to take the time to send them a few handwritten sentiments. Happy mail is hardly sent anymore! Get some cute cards, pretty stamps, and practice signing your new name!
DRY YOUR BOUQUET
Your dreamed of a gorgeous bouquet filled with amazing flowers that smelled like heaven. Your florist made your dreams a reality. Ok, now what?! This is a step I suggest you take BEFORE you leave for your honeymoon! It's super easy to dry your bouquet and I've done it a few times with great success. All you need is a dry area, room to hang, and patience. First, let your bouquet dry out a little. Take some string a hang it upside down (I did this in my basement). Spray it with the most aggressive strong-hold hairspray you can find. Ignore it for 3-4 weeks. Once it's completely dry, spray it again. Voila! That's it! I have mine on display in a vase. Other people have pressed their bouquets but I can't give you any advice on that- I've never been successful!
Your married now! Enjoy being a newlywed- the time flies!
This new season as a mother of two certainly takes some getting used to! Baby feedings, diapers, and snuggles mixed with homework, chores, and legos on the floor is not for the faint at heart. Dylan is 3 months old now and I'm starting to get into a groove that works for our family. Now to get into a groove that works for work! So here's a recap of life in my house lately!
I'm extremely excited to share one of my favorite weddings, Will and Theresa's big day at Martin's West! Will and Theresa are absolutely perfect for each other. Both die-hard Harry Potter fans, Will and Theresa got engaged at Hogwarts! These two self-proclaimed nerds are clearly in love and are each other's perfect match!
I spent a lovely fall day in the Federal Hill neighborhood of Baltimore capturing the magic of Daniel and Lindsey's classic wedding at the Star Spangle Flag House Museum, right on the harbor. The sun was shining and the trees were turning beautiful colors for Lindsey and Dan's big day!
All of this frigid January weather with its snowstorms and bitter cold spurts makes me wish we were still in the season of corn mazes, pumpkin patches, and drinking warm apple cider in cozy sweaters. Kristan and Tyler's engagement session at the Baltimore County Agricultural Center seemed like the perfect shoot to feature on the blog for those of you who want to daydream about fall, and possibly pick up some of your own ideas about what you might want for your engagement photos!
Emily and Matt's wedding at the Baltimore Museum of Art was sophisticated and classic, from Emily's stunning Sareh Nouri gown to the ornate stone steps of their venue. Their wedding was the perfect black tie affair, complete with a band and even a live painter painting the reception throughout the night! Having a live painter paint during the reception was such a unique way of capturing the night and paired perfectly with the art museum venue.
Well, here we are. The end of another amazing year in business! I still feel like I need to pinch myself on the regular to make sure that this isn't a dream! Working with awesome couples, being a part of amazing weddings, and everything that goes along with this is seriously a dream come true.
This year I actually have enough behind the scenes photos to write one of these super fun posts! I always look forward to my photogra-friends posting theirs- so here's mine! You'll see my belly grow throughout the season. You'll see variations of my famous messy bun. You'll see my love affair with my Holdfast Moneymaker. You'll definitely see me asking a group of groomsmen to empty their pockets for photos and what happened because of that! You'll see me helping grandma, fixing a broken bustle, hanging with livestock, wrangling children... you name it!
So grab a chair, a glass of wine or a cup of coffee, and get comfy! Photo overload coming your way in 3.... 2.... 1....
Baltimore sweethearts Lindsay and Lance, along with their pup Rico, joined me in Fells Point for a waterfront engagement session! With the sun and the water popping against the historic, worn brick buildings and streets, we had the best time exploring the historic Baltimore neighborhood.
With Christmas being right around the corner and winter officially in full swing, I’ve been reminiscing about summer and all of the great projects I worked on with clients on those sunny, warm days! One of my absolute favorites is my day in Annapolis with Apollos and Nicole.
I can't get enough of the contrast between purple wedding accents and the lush greenery of a rustic outdoor venue. Leslie and Dan's wedding at Pond View Farm in White Hall, Maryland, was full of vibrant purples and green backdrops. It was the perfect summer day with just the right temperature, especially for August. I loved shooting every minute of it!
A few things I've learned in my 18+ months of working from home! Comment and tell me what realizations you've had!
Stephanie and Jon are such an adventure-loving couple. They love being outdoors so much that for one of their first dates, they rode bikes on the NCR trail. Because of their history with the NCR trail, Stephanie and Jon decided to shoot their engagement photos there! We had a blast adventuring on the trail and capturing some amazing shots of Stephanie and Jon with their adorable Boston Terrier Ginny during the sunny fall afternoon.
With Veteran's Day having just passed, it seemed like a great time to share Shawn and Marisa's wedding at the Star Spangled Flag House Museum in Baltimore! The red, white, and blue backdrop of the museum seemed like such a fitting place for these two lovebirds to tie the knot.
Travis is such a big part of my life (pun intended) that I thought I really ought to share a little more about him! Travis came to us almost four years ago in December. I have ALWAYS been a dog person and have had dogs literally my entire life. I've had english bulldogs, labs, and mutts, but Travis is my first mastiff! And let me tell you, I am completely infatuated with him!
Just in time for Halloween, it's finally starting to feel like fall in Maryland! I've been incredibly busy with doubleheader wedding weekends, attending the AKP retreat in Baltimore, and preparing for the newest member of our little family, but I'm so excited for spending my in-between moments indulging in all things fall - I'm talking pumpkin spice, hot apple ciders, snuggling by the fireplace...enjoying the sweater weather season while I can.
